Smart Vivekananda

First Incident - While Swami Vivekananda was travelling by train, in Rajasthan he was resting in a second class compartment with closed eyes as if meditating. Seeing Swamiji’s saffron dress and his relaxed composure, two Englishmen started abusing him. They were under the impression that Swamiji did not know English. When the train reached the station, Swamiji asked a train official for a glass of water, in English. The Englishmen were surprised; they asked Swamiji why he was silent, though he could understand them. Swamiji snapped back ,”This is not the first time I have met fools.” Second Incident - Swamiji was wandering near the Himalayas some time. In the course of his journey, he came across a river. The boat had already left the shore and he sat near the shore waiting for the boat to come back. As he was waiting he saw another Sadhu, a  Siddh Yogi  approaching. The Sadhu saw Swamiji sitting and asked why he was siting. To this, he replied he was waiting f...

Death

A FM's Radio frequency remaining the same, We hear different RJ at different times But all represent the one and same FM frequency. Metaphorically, The soul is like the FM frequency, continuously The RJ are different forms of the same soul manifesting itself. Life at Soul is in continuity, manifesting in different forms. In forms, an end is a beginning, a beginning is an end. Life is a series of recycling. The soul expressing itself in one form and reappearing in another form, continuously. End of a seed is beginning of a sprout. End of sprout is beginning of a tree. End of a flower is beginning of a fruit End of a fruit is beginning of a seed. Transcending a form is transformation. Life is often uncertainty. But one thing certainly happens once in a life time. For everybody. I learnt that, death can be understood as having three components. The Physical or biological, I have experienced by others death. Certainly, I will not experience my death other th...

60 plus

I am changing.  After loving my parents, my siblings, my spouse, my children, my friends, now I have started loving myself. Yes, I am changing. I count by blessing. At the same time, I let go what need go of all those attachments of no value additions to my living Yes, I am changing. I just realized that I am not “Atlas”. And I getting to know the world does not rest on my shoulders. Yes, I am changing. I have learnt that its better to drop the ego than to break a relationship. After all, my ego will keep me aloof whereas with relationships I will never be alone. Yes, I am changing. I walk away from people who don't value me. After all, they might not know my worth, but I do. Yes, I am changing. I remain cool when someone plays dirty politics to outrun me in the rat race. After all, I am not a rat & neither am I in any race. Yes, I am changing. I've learnt not to correct people even when I know they are wrong. After all, the onus ...

Attitude

The longer I live, the more I realize the impact of attitude on life. Attitude, to me, is more important than facts. It is more important than the past, than education, than money, than circumstances, than failures, than successes, than what other people think or say or do. It is more important than appearance, giftedness or skill. It will make or break a company...a church....a home. The remarkable thing is we have a choice every day regarding the attitude we will embrace for that day. We cannot change our past...we cannot change the fact that people will act in a certain way. We cannot change the inevitable. The only thing we can do is play on the one string we have, and that is our attitude... I am convinced that life is 10% what happens to me and 90% how I react to it. And so it is with you...we are in charge of our attitudes. Charles R. Swindoll

A story of Sudha Murthy

Sudha Murthy, chairperson, Infosys Foundation is known for her ability to glean interesting stories from the lives of ordinary people. The following is extracted from her latest collection, 'Bombay to Bangalore': It was the beginning of summer. As I boarded the Udyan Express at Gulbarga, I saw that the 2nd class reserved compartment was jam-packed with people. I sat down and was pushed to the corner of the berth. The ticket collector came in and started checking people's tickets. Suddenly, he looked in my direction and asked, what about your ticket? 'I have already shown my ticket to you', I said. 'Not you madam; the girl hiding below your berth'. I realized that someone was sitting under my berth. When the TC yelled at her, the girl came out of hiding. She was thin, scared and looked like she had been crying profusely. She must have been about 13 or 14 yrs old. The TC started forcibly pulling her out from the compartment.   Suddenly, I had a strange feeling...

Being and Becoming

GROWTH NEEDS BOTH THE WINGS OF BEING AND BECOMING . There are people who become too satisfied with their being. They lose growth. They become complacent... they lose tone. They simply become placid... no movement, no dynamism. They don't know what 'divine discontent' is. So remember this. Then there are people who are too much engaged in becoming. They lose all consciousness of being. They become  ambitious. They are always discontent. They don't know what divine content is. Real growth is possible when you are divinely contented and divinely discontented together. You are happy, whatsoever you have got, you are grateful, whatsoever you have got, but you know much more is possible, and you go on praying for it. You are happy... you go on being thankful for it. Whatsoever has happened, has happened without your earning it. It is a gift, a grace, so one is never complaining. One is not saying, 'I don't have what I need.' And more is always available. One feels...

Pressure

▶️ Mother Earth doesn't make the process of germination easy for any seed.  ▶️ In fact, it stands against every seed. By challenging its survival.  ▶️ The seed has to sprout and fight against the forces of the earth to emerge above the soil.  ▶️ Providential it is, that the very earth which stood against the seed till it sprouted, then nurtures it, and helps it to grow.  ▶️ It's nature's way of qualifying the seed; if found deserving, it provides all the resources that are needed for it to grow to its full potential.  https://m.facebook.com/story/graphql_permalink/?graphql_id=UzpfSTEwMDAwMjY1NTk4MzY2MTpWSzoyNTg4ODM4MzA0NzEzMDQ4 ▶️Similarly , it applies to all being.... If you are a mango seed, the nature will expect a minimum of you becoming a mango tree. Never more than that. Nature is so clever for its procreation process. But it does not depend ONLY on you.  If you operate on it, it co-operate ....

The let go attachment when I do not clinch to it (even mentally) when I do not need it.  It is more than de-cluttering or removing thing not needed. We all are blessed. All are part of the same source When the dreamer get "attached" to dream, he can not wake up. Drop I. Observe. There can be different consequence to viral invasion to the body. By nature, the body intelligence, immunity may not accept the invasion of the virus in totality. The body will fight with it, if the virus dis-stabilize the physical being. Or body will give up the fight leading to death. Or virus will live without the dis-stabilization of the body. Still these are temporal changes of the nature. So, tune to your innate nature by being observed of the happening...... Accept what you need not change. Change what you need not accept. Acceptance (without contentment) and Change (without contentment) is a continuous process Every prediction is a constructed memory. If future happens as per the prediction, l...

The Empty Boat

If a man is crossing a river And an empty boat collides with his own skiff, Even though he be a bad-tempered man He will not become very angry. But if he sees a man in the boat, He will shout at him to steer clear. If the shout is not heard, he will shout again, And yet again, and begin cursing. And all because there is somebody in the boat. Yet if the boat were empty. He would not be shouting, and not angry. If you can empty your own boat Crossing the river of the world, No one will oppose you, No one will seek to harm you. Chuang Tzu
